The Impact

Reduced medication errors, improved stock control and a clear audit trail and dashboard.

Improved stock control
The system has allowed the home to take control of their medication inventory and manage stock more efficiently. This has resulted in minimal waste and significantly less returns to the pharmacy.

Easy to learn and simple to use system
The care team find the system very user friendly and find it makes medication administration much easier than their previous processes. Particularly because of the resident traffic light function which clearly indicates whether a resident has received none, some, or all of their medication.

Reduced risk of medication errors
There is no longer the risk of overdosing residents as the exact time of medication administration is recorded on the system and the care staff know exactly when to administer the next dosage to residents. Also, the barcode scanning function ensures drugs and doses are correct and medication is given to the right person at the right time.

Clear audit trail and reporting dashboard
Provides management with a transparent and straightforward picture of medication administration at the touch of a button. This can be accessed remotely which is a huge benefit for management who aren’t always on site.

Improved the handover process
All information relating to resident’s medication regimes is now in one place on the system so handovers between members of the care teams are effortless.

Easily customise cycle changes
The care team can amend a resident’s medication cycle with a click of a button. The system will also remember to reverse the amendments when required, which is one less task for the care team to do as well as remember.

Strong partnership
The home have been well supported by the pharmacy (Datchet Village Pharmacy) and the providers ofthe system (Omnicell) which has developed into a strong partnership between the parties.

"Six months into using Omnicell eMAR, we made the decision to change the pharmacy that provided our prescriptions as they were based far away from us and didn’t entirely understand our processes. The transition moving to Datchet Village Pharmacy was really smooth and caused no disruptions to our medication management. Datchet Village Pharmacy understand the dynamics of our home and have tweaked their processes so thatthe system works better for us. The smooth transition is a result of Omnicell and Datchet Village Pharmacy’s detailed planning and has allowed us to provide the best possible care to our residents."
