Leveling Up My Apprenticeship with Omnicell

National Apprenticeships Week 2022 is taking place from 7th to 13th February 2022. In this short blog April Phillips, UK Marketing Co-Ordinator Apprentice reflects on her apprenticeship journey with Omnicell and how this is equipping her with the skills and knowledge for a rewarding career.

Why did you choose an apprenticeship?

Deciding what path to take after college can be very daunting (more like terrifying) as it can determine your future and potentially where you could end up in your career.

Having all these options in your hands and choosing how you want to pursue it can be difficult, but after a lot of consideration, I decided to start my journey into my marketing career with an apprenticeship (obviously).

I knew it would provide me with experience within a workplace, which we all know is very important to be able to take the next step in your career, as well as the added bonus of education and qualifications at the end of it all.

What is the typical day in the life of an apprentice at Omnicell?

A typical day in the life of an apprentice at Omnicell?

Where to begin…

At first, it was very overwhelming with all the different solutions, and abbreviations but once I had better knowledge of our solutions (and 100+ abbreviations) it was a lot easier to get tasks done.

One of the busiest times of the year is when we have events coming up, as I help with the large events alongside my manager, sales team, warehouse team, and many more others to ensure everything runs smoothly and efficiently. I also manage some of the smaller events, ensuring the logistics are in order, and all our work behind the scenes are, well, kept behind the scenes.

Monday to Thursday I work on day-to-day projects and all things Omnicell, whilst I spend my Fridays working on my course work, which is preparing me for my EPA (End Point Assessment) for my apprenticeship.

What have you enjoyed most?

I really enjoy the event planning and attending the events, seeing it all fall into place is very satisfying (to me anyway! Don’t get me wrong it can be very stressful planning an event especially when things don’t plan out as they were supposed to (but we don’t talk about that – so pretend you didn’t read this bit).

I also really like attending our video testimonial shoots, being able to meet a customer first hand, and seeing how our solutions have improved their workflows. I am excited and looking forward to getting involved in our multi-media strategy that we have planned for 2022!

What is your biggest achievement so far?

I think my biggest achievement so far has to be by getting a distinction in my L3 Apprenticeship in Digital Marketing and being accepted into my L4 Marketing Executive Apprenticeship, as it proved to me that I can do it and I am leveling up within my education.

Would you recommend an apprenticeship to others and if so, why?

YES, 100% YES! Without a doubt it is the best decision I made for my career. An apprenticeship helps you gain on the job experience, which is a massive bonus when looking to further your career in the future, as well as working towards a qualification and learning the ins and outs of your chosen field. I feel that having the support from the business you work in, really helps as you work through your course, as you always have someone in the team to help you.

The theme for National Apprenticeship Week 2022 is “Build the Future” - what comes to mind when you think of this theme in relation to your apprenticeship journey?

When you say “Build the Future” I instantly think of growth and how an apprenticeship helps give you the extra step up and puts you one step closer to your long-term goal. “Build the Future” represents apprenticeships perfectly, it is just up to you how you choose to build.
