Omnicell heads to Vienna for the European Association of Hospital Pharmacists Congress

Hospital pharmacy automation key to evolving profession

The tremendous challenges of the past two years have had a huge impact on everyone involved in the healthcare sector. While they don’t attract the same number of headlines as doctors and nursing staff, hospital pharmacists have had to adapt to the pandemic every bit as much.

The next European Association of Hospital Pharmacists (EAHP) Annual Congress, which takes place in Vienna from 23-25 March, is being much anticipated following a two-year hiatus because of the pandemic. The event will present a much needed opportunity for sharing best practice among the hospital pharmacy community.

The value of automation and digitalisation has become increasing understood and appreciated during the pandemic, with solutions offering skilled staff the opportunity to focus on value-added solutions instead of mundane tasks, while also reducing medication dispensing errors and thereby improving patient safety.

Omnicell will be leading a dedicated symposium session on Wednesday 23 March entitled ‘“The Future of Pharmacy – Transforming the Patient Experience”. Facilitated by Don Ferren, Omnicell International’s Director of Clinical Strategy, delegates will hear from a number of key hospital pharmacy leaders who have transformed services for both themselves and their patients, as a direct result of the integration of automated solutions.

Delegates will learn how autonomous pharmacy is transforming the patient experience, while getting a tantalising glimpse of what the future of automation will look like. Other key areas which will be discussed include an assessment of the journey so far with interoperability and a look at both the successes and challenges of collaboration between healthcare professionals and technologists.

The expert panel includes:

  • Thomas Bäckstrøm, Hospital Pharmacy Director from Sykehusapotekene Østfold, Kalne, Norway
  • Roger Fernandes, Director of Pharmacy from King's College Hospital, UK
  • Pieter Helmons, Hospital Pharmacist from Hospital St Jansdal, Netherlands
  • Martin Hug, Director of Pharmacy from University Medical Center Freiburg, Germany.

Omnicell will be taking the opportunity to showcase its range of hardware and software solutions for hospital pharmacy, including XT automated dispensing cabinets, MedX IMS, SupplyX IMS and Mediamt next generation pack picking robot. The event will also provide the perfect opportunity to showcase our ‘Innovation Hub’ – this will be a vital area for networking with pharmacy professionals and gaining their valuable feedback, which will greatly assist in the development of our future, solution roadmap.

Omnicell will be showcasing its expertise at Booth 31 from 23-25 March.
